Picking The Right Profile For Your Steels

Picking The Right Profile For Your Steels

  • by Sam Marron-Bonathan

We are excited to announce we have teamed up with the Ozone Rink in Bracknell to help you find what profile is best for you.

Ozone are top of their game in coaching and providing the best training here in the UK. Us at HockeyStation believe we provide the best equipment to take you to the next level and that includes having the right profile on your steels. You may have the right skates on your feet but without having your steels profiled you may not be using them to their max performance.

Now it's easier than ever to know what profile you want when you come in store.

If you wear Bauer or CCM Skates (from holder size 238 - 288) we have you covered, as long as you're booked onto an Ozone Camp we have supplied profiled steels ready for you to try before you get your own steels profiled at HockeyStation.

What is a blade profile?

A skate profile refers to the specific shape and contour of the blade that touches the ice. The profile affects how the skate performs on the ice, including things like speed, agility, and stability. There are two main components of a skate profile:

  1. Profile Shape (Radius of Profile): This refers to the overall curvature along the length of the skate blade itself, roughly the middle two thirds.

We offer three types of player Profiles on our Prosharp, Zuperior, Quad and Ellipse

Zuperior - Feel more on toes; quicker agility and acceleration

Ellipse - Smooth transitions between zones, seamless feel on the ice

Quad - Feel more centrally balanced, powerful skating stride

     2. Pitch(Balance point): This refers the balance point of the steel which is moved back from centre, between 15mm to 20mm on the three main Prosharp profiles above resulting in a more forward pitch/on your toes feel.

No problem, we offer a mail in service available here -- MAIL IN PROFILE SERVICE

We use the Prosharp AS2001 SC which profiles both your steels at the same time to ensure both are identical. The AS2001 SC has earned the reputation of a precision sharpening machine desired by many professional hockey teams and skaters around the world.
